An Afternoon Workshop with Leela Grace!
Friday, July 26 or Friday August 23, 2024 * 1-5PM at Scouters Mountain Nature Park! Read below for details...
Since the dawn of humanity, we have always sung in joy and in sadness; sung in community; sung in sacred times and in every day work... These have been a challenging couple of years, but we must keep singing! We can all sing. Come out to a shady shelter with a beautiful mountain view for an afternoon experiencing the joy of using our voices and creating harmonies together!
Friday, July 26 (Register HERE) or Friday, August 23 (Register HERE)
1:00pm-5:00pm
Picnic Shelter at Scouters Mountain Nature Park, Happy Valley, Oregon
Have you every wondered how harmonies work? Leela is here to help demystify the beautiful puzzle of harmonizing by ear! With a patient, light-hearted approach, Leela will help you discover the power of voices raised in harmony. Come spend a lovely summer afternoon singing in the shade! You'll receive detailed directions via email after you register.
We will practice the fundamentals of two- and three-part harmony using by-ear techniques. You don’t need any harmonizing or singing experience to attend. We'll start with introductory “functional theory” on singing and harmonizing and then we'll put that understanding into practice by learning several songs ear. We learn to understand harmonies and how they work by SINGING songs from the musical constellation of Americana (stringband, old country, folk, bluegrass, and more). Build your confidence, strengthen your voice, and have FUN! All abilities and experience levels are welcome. Come explore the possibilities! Making music makes your life better, regardless of “talent.”
Here is a video to give you a glimpse into Leela's harmony world: https://youtu.be/Ih7PgzUMGcw
"Learn how to harmonize easily and joyfully! Leela Grace is a leading harmony teacher in the Pacific Northwest from the real world of folk music. Leela's teaching is both simple and profound for its common sense and its accessibility for both the new - and seasoned - singer. Treat yourself to the discovery of harmony and learn how it really works." -- Kate Power, Quality Folk
Note: This will be a COVID cautious event. You will be asked to bring a high quality mask, which may be worn when we are singing in close proximity. If you have symptoms on the day of the event (or have had a recent close exposure), please do not attend. In that situation, you can request a 75% refund. This event will only be held if at least 10 singers have pre-registered by July 24th. If the workshop is canceled, you'll receive a full refund.
"Leela Grace is one of those rare teachers who can entertain, inspire, and directly translate her own talent into learnable skills for her students! Having taken at least 10 classes with Leela over the past five years, I can honestly say I’ve never found a better music teacher. Her style is fun and engaging, with the immediate satisfaction that comes with practical, hands-on (and voice-on!) learning." - student
