(Scroll down to register!)
Are you curious about clawhammer banjo but already have some basic instrumental skills? This class is for students who have played a fretted instrument (such as guitar, mandolin, ukulele and/or Scruggs-style banjo) or who have a few basics in clawhammer banjo but haven't progressed far. We will jump right into the skills and techniques that make clawhammer the unique, rhythmic, versatile style that it is! I'll assume you already have some basic musical understanding and that you are familiar with such concepts as tuning, chord changes, how to hold an instrument, etc. Utilizing by-ear learning, clear, step-by-step instruction, and time for individual coaching, we'll have some fun learning how to wrangle this amazing instrument. By the end of the class, you should be comfortable with the frailing strum, adept at chord changes, know how to do hammer-ons, slides, and pull-offs, and have several tunes in your repertoire. The tunes will be taught by ear, but audio files and tab will be shared after each class.
It is suggested that you bring a banjo strap, electronic tuner, and banjo capo. Students ages 12 and up are welcome in this class. Please contact Leela about younger students.
Note: The class will be limited to 12 participants. Pre-registration is required. Questions? Send an email to leelagracemusic@gmail.com.
