Tuesdays, 7:00pm-8:00pm, September 17-October 29, 2019.
(Scroll down to register!)
This class is for intermediate to advanced clawhammer banjo players who want to explore the banjo as a versatile accompanying instrument. We will cover topics such as: how to use tunings and your capo to play in different keys, right hand techniques for creating more interesting accompanying patterns, fills and instrumental lead breaks, simple fingerpicking patterns for waltzes, and much more. We will be learning a variety of songs in order to practice these techniques. The repertoire will include songs from the old time, folk, old country, contemporary singer/songwriter realms and more… This class is recommended for anyone who has completed Leela's Banjo II and/or Banjo III classes or for anyone who has moderate skills (drop thumb, tunes and chords in G, Double C, and Modal tunings, etc.) on the clawhammer banjo. This will primarily be a by-ear class, with audio files provided to aid in practice. Tablature may be provided for some songs. The focus will be on banjo (not singing) technique but yes, we will be singing! Come join the fun!
It is suggested that your banjo have a 5th string 'spikes' in the 7th and 9th frets (or a 5th string capo) installed, and that you bring a banjo strap, electronic tuner, and banjo capo.
Note: The class will be limited to 12 participants. Pre-registration is required. Questions? Send an email to leelagracemusic@gmail.com.
