So you've been playing that banjo for awhile and you have your clawhammer strum down, you know how play in several tunings, use the capo, and play tunes using drop thumbing, slides, hammer-ons, and pull-offs at a moderate to fast tempo. You can play some awesome tunes as long as you have tablature or a teacher (with audio or video) breaking it down for you...What's the next step? This class will take you through the process of learning a tune or a song from scratch, completely by ear. Open the door to the wide world of music! You will be given the tools to listen to a tune sung or played by any instrument and figure it out on your banjo! We'll start out with simple tunes, convert them to clawhammer, and then progress from there. This class is particularly designed for players who have completed Clawhammer Banjo III or IV, but you are welcome to join if you are a clawhammer banjo player with moderate experience (you can always email Leela to check in before you sign up).
It is suggested that your banjo have a 5th string 'spikes' in the 7th and 9th frets (or a 5th string capo) installed, and that you bring a banjo strap, electronic tuner, and banjo capo.
Note: The class will be limited to 12 participants. Pre-registration is required. Questions? Send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
