We will be performing a beautiful collection of songs from the roots and branches of the Americana music tradition. This season's theme is: The Book of Love: Heartbreak, Hope, and Harmony. We'll be singing songs by Emma's Revolution, Stephin Merritt of The Magnetic Fields (as sung by Rose Cousins and Rose Polenzani), The Small Glories, a deep cut from Bob Dylan (as covered by Tim O'Brien), and a traditional song that was sung by Rev. Gary Davis and Bruce Molsky! All songs are arranged in beautiful 3-part harmony by Leela Grace and the singers have learned them over 10 weeks of (in-person, masked, by-ear only) rehearsal! After our presentation, Leela and the chorus will lead everyone in a singalong!
In a world that is increasingly isolating and technology-focused, there is deep power, rebellion, and beauty in the simplicity of standing with a group of other humans and feeling your voices rise and ring together. Since the dawn of humanity, we have always sung in joy and in sadness; sung in community; sung in sacred times and in every day work... Only relatively recently has our culture created the false narrative of "talent" and told the lie to so many of us that we just aren't "singers." That we aren't "good enough." It is silencing and damaging. We can all sing. We are here to raise each other up, not tear each other down. Come listen to the beauty born in the joy of using our voices and creating harmonies together!
